Therapeutic Riding

InStride has long been recognized as one of the leading hippotherapy centers in the Southeastern United States. As a compliment to our hippotherapy program, we also offer a therapeutic riding program.

The Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH International) defines therapeutic riding as an equine-assisted activity for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of individuals with special needs.

InStride’s PATH Intl. Certified Instructors teach adaptive riding skills to adults and children with varying special needs focusing on an individual’s abilities and goals. As participants learn horsemanship and riding skills, they gain a sense of freedom and independence, interact with their peers, and learn new skills in a fun-filled environment.

Benefits of participating in therapeutic riding include improvements in:

  • Balance
  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Coordination
  • Fine & Gross Motor Skills
  • Planning & Problem-Solving
  • Communication
