It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our very special InStride Therapy horses, "Cookie".
"Somewhere...somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some Paradise where horses go.
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again."
- Stanley Harrison
Cookie arrived at InStride in 1999, known then as The Smith Center for Therapeutic Riding. She was eleven years old when she began her career with InStride, a career that lasted almost 20 years. Cookie was a favorite among staff and volunteers and helped countless numbers of riders achieve a better quality of living through therapeutic riding and hippotherapy.
In early 2019, after almost 20 years of working in programs, Cookie was officially retired, only coming out of retirement to engage in grooming and leading activities. Most recently, she spent part of a day working with veterans from Operation Warrior Resolution.
Those that knew Cookie best knew her to be a strong yet gentle mare. She was dependable and kind, giving and steady, and her presence in the barn will be greatly missed. Until we meet again, Miss Cookie.
